What the day looks like
You pick a morning or afternoon window Monday to Saturday when you call, or we propose one when we ring you back about the form, the same day if water is coming in or a wall is moving. The technician walks the outside first, then the basement or crawl space, then every room with a laser level on a tripod, photographing cracks against a scale as they go. Nothing is quoted from the driveway.
What the written sheet lists
In the price
The findings, in plain words. Each pier by type and location, with the depth it is expected to reach. Drain tile and membrane by the linear foot. The sump, its check valve and the battery backup if chosen. Crack injection by the crack. Labor, the permit fee from City of Huntsville Building Services as its own line, the Alabama 811 locate, hauling of spoil, and the workmanship warranty with its term.
Not in the price
A stamped engineer's letter, which comes from a licensed structural engineer and is quoted separately if a lender or buyer wants one. Repairs to plumbing leaks found under the slab, which a plumber does. Mold work, termite treatment, roofing and landscaping beyond regrading at the foundation. Anything not written on the sheet is not owed.
What happens by when
The sheet is handed over before the technician leaves and stays good for thirty days. If you approve it, the contractor files the permit where one is needed, calls 811, and gives you a start date; no deposit is taken unless materials must be ordered to size, and that amount is on the sheet. For a job at or above $10,000, ask for the contractor's Home Builders Licensure Board number and look it up before signing. You are free to get a second opinion in the meantime, and we will not chase you for an answer.
Water rising in the basement, a wall bowing before your eyes, a floor that dropped overnight: say so when you call and the next available technician comes. Keep people out of that room and the power off at any outlet below the water line while you wait.
